The World is a Beautiful Place

Looking Through the Trees

This image comes from a really small town in Ohio called Waldo where my friend lived. I wanted to use an image that didn't just show the immediate world around me. But the world around me that is hundreds of thousands of miles away from me.

I will be using this image of the sun shining through the trees as inspiration for an interior space. Using New Zealand supplied textiles and fabrics I will create an interior that evokes a similar feeling to standing under an old tree and feeling the sun on your face.

Couch Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Lucerne V3244 – 57196-116
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: Villa Nova
COLOUR: Forest/16
COMPOSITION: 100% Polyester
WIDTH: 140cm
USAGE: Heavy Duty Upholstery, Drapery, Accessory
ABRASION: 90,000 Martindale Cycles

I chose this dark forest green as my sofa fabric because of it’s
colour as well as it’s texture. It is described as being super soft
and with a velvety texture. I thought relaxing on such a soft couch
would be very relaxing which is how the image makes me feel.
I think the deep green also looks very earthy and natural which
embodies the image.

Cushion 1 Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Forest Cushion Cover – 57402-103
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: Villa Nova
COLOUR: Pine/03
COMPOSITION: 100% Cotton
WIDTH: 50cm
USAGE: Accessory
ABRASION: Unknown

I chose this cushion because of the obvious forest scene.
I think it relates well to my image as the imagery is similar.
I believe the watercolour blues and greens are similar to some of
the greens in the foreground of the image. The image/pattern
of the textile looks like its sitting a bit in the fog which I think
contrasts against the brightness of some of the other fabrics
within the space.

Cushion 2 Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Crush FR K5033 – 52339-121
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: Kirkby Design
COLOUR: Sunshine/121
COMPOSITION: 93% Polyester, 7% Cotton
WIDTH: 140cm
USAGE: Heavy Duty Upholstery, Drapery, Accessory
ABRASION: 200,000

I chose this fabric because it contrasted well against the green
of the sofa fabric. As it’s right next to green on the colour
wheel being analogous means these two are colours that look really
nice together. I chose this velvet kind of texture because it adds a
layer of richness to the green couch which is seen in the image as
the sun shining through the leaves. The colour name is also an apt
description of why I chose it.

Cushion 3 Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Soda K5158 – 57216-117
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: Kirkby Design
COLOUR: Sangria/17
COMPOSITION: 100% Inherently Fire Retardant Polyester (Trevira CS)
WIDTH: 140cm
USAGE: Heavy Duty Upholstery, Drapery, Accessory
ABRASION: 40,000 Martindale Cycles

I chose this colour for the cushion because in my image there is
a touch of redish pink where the sun reflects off of the brown tree
trunks. It also works in with the overall colour palette I’ve chosen
to work with.

Cushion 4 Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Tula – 12413-106
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: James Dunlop
COLOUR: Seaport
COMPOSITION: 65% Polyester, 25% Viscose, 10% Linen
WIDTH: 140cm, 70cm (Weft), 89cm (Warp)
USAGE: Medium Duty Upholstery, Accessory
ABRASION: 25,000 Martindale Cycles

I liked this as a cushion fabric because the way the colour is
within the geometric pattern looks similar to how the sun shines
through the tree leaves. I think it looks natural despite the very man
made looking pattern on the textile. The colour works well with the
other chosen colours which gives the space an overall analogous
colour story.

Ottoman Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Vinout – 70199-101
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: UV Pro Outdoor Fabrics
COLOUR: Onyx
COMPOSITION: 74% Polyvinylchloride (Vinyl), 23% Polyester, 3% Polyurethane
WIDTH: 142cm
USAGE: Heavy Duty Upholstery, Drapery, Accessory
ABRASION: Unknown – UV 6-7/8 Blue Scale

I chose this fabric for the ottoman because I thought it grounded
the space a little. The faux leather looks aged and worn in with time.
It gives a sense of homliness. I think the darkness of the textile captures
the shadows within the image.

Drapery Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Hana V3233 – 57015-107
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: Villa Nova
COLOUR: Cinnamon/07
COMPOSITION: 100% Cotton
WIDTH: 136cm, 68cm (Weft), 62 (Warp)
USAGE: Light Duty Upholstery, Drapery, Accessory
ABRASION: 18,000 Martindale Cycles

I loved the colour in this textile. I think it reflects the orange in
the picture while standing out within the space. It’s has very delicate
looking imagery that relates very well to my inspiration image.

Rug 1 Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Rivia Floor Rug - R23735675
SUPPLIER: Freedom Furniture
BRAND: Freedom Furniture
COLOUR: Black and White
COMPOSITION: 100% Wool
WIDTH: 160x230cm
USAGE: Rug
ABRASION: Unknown

I really liked this rug as it acts as a grounding point for the space
being black and white. It also adds an element of texture to the
space without being overwhelming.

Wallpaper 1:

NAME/CODE: Resene Wallprint
SUPPLIER: Resene
BRAND: Resene
COLOUR: Custom
COMPOSITION: Unkown
WIDTH: 3m (Minimum of 61cm)
USAGE: Wallpaper
ABRASION: Unknown

I wanted to have a really organic wallpaper in the largest space
but I couldn’t find an image that I felt fit with the scheme.
I had an image that I thought would have gone with it from the same
back garden so I chose a custom wallpaper. This is very green and
adds some vibrancy to the space.

DINING ROOM

Dining Chair Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Infinite – 12509-654
SUPPLIER: James Dunlop
BRAND: Mokum
COLOUR: Night Shade
COMPOSITION: 100% Linen
WIDTH: 140cm
USAGE: Medium Duty Upholstery, Drapery, Accessory, Top of Bed
ABRASION: 30,000 Martindale Cycles

With a nice and natural dark walnut dining table a chair with a
charcoal top and natural timber legs would look really nice set
against the very light background of the wallpaper. The darkness
of this fabric will be able to mask any stains and with the irregularities
of linen the fabric will look well worn with age and time.

Rug 2 Fabric:

NAME/CODE: Newport Coastal Collection
SUPPLIER: Source Mondial
BRAND: Source Mondial
COLOUR: Beige/Natural
COMPOSITION: Wool + Cotton
WIDTH: Custom dependant on dining table
USAGE: Rug
ABRASION: Unknown

I liked this rug for under the dining table area as it was a zero
pile rug which adds texture to the room. It won’t stop chairs from
moving around but will make the dining table a space of its own.
The natural colours and fibres are in reflection of the naturalness
of the inspiration imagery. It is a classy minimal looking rug that
doesn’t draw too much attention but is still interesting.

Wallpaper 2:

NAME/CODE: Bien Fait - Cloudy Wallpaper
SUPPLIER: Paper Room
BRAND: Bien Fait
COLOUR: White + Grey
COMPOSITION: Paper
WIDTH: 1.82m W x 2.80m H
USAGE: Wallpaper
ABRASION: Unknown

I really like how cute this wallpaper is. It adds a bit of interest to
the dining room with the imagery. A lot of the interior textiles were
chosen to reflect nature and this isn’t different. It’s bringing the
outside in with added illustration. It’s not hyper-realistic like the other
wallpaper to add balance to the two spaces as a whole.
