Stromae in an Interior Space


Stromae


Musicians are a great source of inspiration for many people - a majority of the time it is because of their personas or personalities. Stromae is a musician that will make you do a double take in both his live shows and his music videos with his wacky style and interesting dancing.

I will be taking inspiration from Stromae and using New Zealand sourced textiles to design a cohesive finished Interior.

This fabric is a nice soft cotton which is good for a sofa. The 
colour is a very bright yellow/mustard which definitely pops in 
a room. It is a colour which complements the greens in the cushion 
and the chair.
The colour reflects the reference picture very well in that a large 
portion was a similar hue.

Stromae is well known for out of the box patterned clothing within 
his music videos. This is definitely a piece that he could be seen 
using in one of those videos. It is bold, unique, and has beautiful 
colours within the pattern. The odd imagery makes it an interesting 
choice for a chair. I believe in a big open space it would look 
gorgeous.

This fabric is another loud pop of colour. The pattern is cool and 
almost a classic at this point. It adds a bit of sophistication to the 
rest of the design. In black and white it could be a more subdued 
version of this design.
Along with the grey cushion to break the pattern up a little, this 
would look very nice with the yellow and the greens of the other 
furniture pieces.



Cushion 1 fabric:

This fabric colour matches well with the yellow colour of the couch 
but still stands out wonderfully. It is vibrant and interesting like 
Stromae. Combined with the velvet texture which makes it feel extravagant
to an almost over the top degree, I believe it is the perfect textile to
complement the musician.



Cushion 2 fabric:

This fabric would work well the the pink and white stripes of the 
chair. Again it has a velvet feel keeping it cohesive with the design. 
This colour is not as vibrant as some of the others which gives the 
eye a place to rest amongst the seeming chaos.



Curtain fabric:

With such loud pieces of furniture I believe a warm tone grey curtain would 
be a great addition to the space. It calms it down a little and doesn't 
distract from the "main attraction". It reflects Stromae in that as an actual 
person behind the art he is quite "normal", however his persona - or his identity - 
is quite loud and unique. The texture of the fabric is a little sheer which can 
bring some light into the area as well.




Rug fabric:

WIDTH: 250cm
USAGE: Rug
ABRASION: Unknown

This fabric is a hand woven vegetable fibre which is very durable. 
It's great for high traffic areas which is required for a living room rug.
The colour is a warm nude/beige, which relates to the curtains, gives your eyes 
a bit of a resting place. Its round shape makes it a little more interesting as well 
which you wouldn't get from a rectangular rug. This references Stromae in that 
it is different and a little eye catching.



Lighting:

A nice pendant light from ECC over the space would tie everything 
together. The yellow gold of the light to the yellow of the couch and 
the retro/unique vibe of the light to the interesting/70's vibe from the patterns 
makes these pieces fit well together. Each interesting and unique just like Stromae.

Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend

Moulin Rouge I couldn't count the amount of times I've seen Moulin Rouge if you asked. It would have to be at least 50 times in the past decade. The very first time I watched the film I was mesmerised by all the colours, the dancing, and the music. It's been my favourite ever since. Ancient Egypt People talking about Ancient Egypt are usually referring to the dynastic period where Egypt was ruled by a King or Pharaoh.
